Donece Spencer

Donece Ballif Spencer, 59, of Kaysville, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 6, 2016.  She was born to Don and LaNece Ballif on April 30, 1957 in Logan, Utah.  She was the second of seven children.

Donece attended Viewmont High School before attending Weber State College where she obtained her Registered Nursing degree.   She used her skill of caring for others as she accepted a Humanitarian Mission call to serve for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Bolivia Santa Cruz Mission.  She loved serving the Lord and the people of Bolivia.

After serving her mission, she worked at Primary Children’s Hospital and later as a labor and delivery nurse at Georgetown University Hospital.  It was while living near Washington D.C. she met the love of her life, Neil Orrin Spencer, in a young single adult ward.  Neil was in medical school at George Washington University.  They married on March 10, 1984 in the Salt Lake Temple.  She was a faithful companion supporting Neil as he continued on with his education and obtained his medical degree and completed his specialization.

They were blessed with five children, Trevor, Lindsay, Erynn, Megan and Brandon.  Trevor and Lindsay passed away at birth and it was painful, but they were later blessed with Erynn, Megan and Brandon.  She considered them all miracles.  She worked tirelessly to serve them and lived many ways through them, supporting their life ambitions and aspirations.

Donece was a quiet disciple of Christ, keenly aware of the needs of others.  She went about doing good, touching the lives of those around her through her incredible cooking skills, organizational ability, diligent follow-up, and tireless service.

One of the highlights of her single adult life was attending BYU-Jerusalem Center.  Of that experience she shared in testimony, “I am so grateful for the opportunity that I had to go to Israel. It was there that the Savior, his life and mission became very real to me. I am so grateful for his love for me, that he would give his life for me personally that I can again return to my Father in Heaven.”  She remained faithful to that testimony and has now returned to Him.

She is survived by her loving husband, three children, her mother, and numerous family and friends who love her and will miss her deeply.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father, two children, and a brother who are now rejoicing with her.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crestwood Stake Center, located at 855 East Mutton Hollow Road, Kaysville, Utah.  Prior to the service friends and family are welcome to join Neil and their children for a brief reception beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main.
