Dona Ruth Drage Doyle

February 29, 1928 – October 18, 2022

On October 18, 2022, our sweet mother, Dona Ruth Doyle passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in Layton, Utah.  Dona was a leap year baby born on February 29, 1928, in Pocatello, Idaho to the parents of Orrin and Mary Allen Drage.  Mom loved telling everyone that she was only ¼ of her age because of her leap year birthday so she was really only 23 ½ years old at the time of her passing.

Dona lived most of her youth in Idaho, Kansas and California. She attended San Jose State University where she met the love of her life. Dona married Norman Melford Doyle on November 26, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Together they lived in Los Angeles, Hawaii and San Jose, California area for all of their adult lives until 2009 when she and Norman moved to Utah to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Dona was an Oral Surgery Dental Assistant while raising her children and then later became a Travel Agent allowing her the opportunity to travel the world with her husband.  Maui, Hawaii was her favorite place to visit but she loved to travel anywhere she could as long as she had someone to go with her.  Mom and dad loved camping, fishing, and being adventurous. They traveled to every state in the US in their motorhome and especially loved Alaska.  They enjoyed their cabin in the Santa Cruz mountains and taking their boat up the Sacramento River Delta.  Mom was happiest when she found herself at the ocean laying on a beach and shared that love with many of her family.

Dona loved music and dancing; her favorite dance partner was her husband. She loved to socialize and made friends everywhere she went, she was loved by so many. Dona had a sparkling personality and she always lit up the room whenever she entered. Dona was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints and was continually learning and growing in the gospel up until the time she passed away.

Dona was preceded in death by her loving husband Norm, her best friend and sister Beverly Watson, her parents Orrin and Mary Drage, son-in-law Gayle Meacham and granddaughter Tara McKee.  She is survived by her children; Kathleen (Bob) Clifford, Karen (Thomas) Hoffman, Kerry (Kurt) Gumbrecht, Norman (Kim) Doyle and bother-in-law Dan Watson. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, four nephews and two nieces.
