Dolores Rowland Poorman

Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. we lost a dear, sweet, gentle spirit, our Mother and Grandmother, Dolores Rowland Poorman. She had been bedridden for almost ten years with dementia and spinal stenosis, but continued to bring blessings to our whole family. We are so grateful for the opportunity we have had to serve and love her so deeply.

Dolores was born and grew up in Ogden, the daughter of Ivan and Mae Elsa Rowland. She married Lee K. Parkinson. They were later divorced.

She then married James F. Poorman. Dolores had three children: Larry (Joyce) Parkinson, Susan Froerer Parkinson, and Stan (Debbie) Poorman.

Life growing up with Mom was filled with creative arts and crafts, swimming lessons, tennis and baseball at the nearby park, helping in the home and yard, and attending plays where she often did the makeup. Mom kept us busy and taught us all to work hard. For a while she was a single mom working even harder and sacrificing for us. She found relaxation bowling every week with her friends but always returned home with a big bag of Chinese food for us to devour.

Dolores was an artist and read prolifically. She loved the intellectual challenge and especially studied the scriptures in depth and taught at a local Bible Study Program. She was a woman of great integrity and honesty. Being true to God was very important to her. She loved fixing up her home and keeping it neat as a pin; even her furnace room was spotless and every screw was organized. Visiting was fun at Grandmas, sitting in her corner sun room on couches and soft chairs petting her cats and dogs, interspersed with good conversation and a genuine interest in each visitor. After retirement, she loved to go to ZCMI''s for lunch and just sit in the mall watching the people interact. Her love for pets was only superseded by her innate love of people, especially grandchildren.

Dolores is survived by her children; 7 grandchildren, Scott Parkinson, Laura Parkinson, Kristen Ruffner, Dan Froerer, Jeni Young, Audrey South and Devin Poorman; 11 plus great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Eva Rowland.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Tim Froerer, one great grandson, Spencer Froerer and brother, Robert Rowland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
