Dolores Rose Nicks

August 1, 1928 - February 19, 2022

Dolores Rose Nicks August 1, 1928 - February 19,2022, our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully at home, at 93 years of age, on February 19, 2022.  Dolores was born on August 1, 1928, in Tooele, Utah, to her loving parents, Yanni Italasano and Bambina Italasano.  She was the eldest of four children.  She spent her childhood in Tooele, Utah.  She was an accomplished accordion player, she worked at Tate’s Drug Store, and she attended and graduated from Tooele High School in 1946.  She went on to attend nurse’s training at Saint Mary’s of the Wasatch, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1949.  She loved her nursing career and was very proud of her profession.

She met her sweetheart, Bernard B. Nicks, in 1950 and they married at St. Marguerite’s Church, in Tooele, Utah, on June 2, 1951.  They were married for 70 years.  Bernard proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, so they spent time living in Tooele, Salt Lake City, Colorado, Florida, California and Massachusetts, until he retired.  They moved to Layton, Utah and Dolores spent the rest of her life there.

Dolores and Bernard had three children Ronald, Mary Ann and Alan.  Dolores retired from nursing to raise her children, which she felt was her favorite and most important work.

She loved gardening and tending her roses.  She was a great cook; her cinnamon rolls, spaghetti and fried chicken were exceptional.  She loved spending time with her family and particularly with her grandchildren.

She was proud of her Italian heritage and loved participating in events that the Italian American Civic League sponsored.  She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.  She served as a den mother for the scouts and taught Catechism classes.

Dolores will be missed by all of her family and friends.  She was a generous, kind and caring lady.

Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, Bambina and Yannie Italasano, her brother Joe Italasano and his wife Lila, and her daughter in-law Rebecca (Becky) Nicks.  She is survived by her husband, Bernard; her three children Ronald Nicks,  Mary Ann (Kevin) Flinders, and Alan Nicks (Chris Alder); three grandchildren Robby Facer, Bradley Nicks and Carissa Flinders; and sisters JoAnn Ekstrom and Linda (Duane) Taylor.

The family would like to thank Inspiration Home Health Care and Hospice, Visiting Angels of Layton and Father Clarence of St. Rose of Lima Church, for the care and service they provided to our mother.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Utah Veteran’s Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 1700 W., Bluffdale, Utah.  Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel in Bluffdale.
