Diane Lee Watson, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from the effects of Covid 19.
She was born April 23, 1938, in Las Vegas, and that only because there was no hospital in Caliente, Nevada, where her parents, Leland and Bessie Mae Little Lee were living.
As a 3-year-old, her parents moved their family to Southern California where her dad took employment in aircraft production in the wake of WWII. There she attended school and graduated high school in 1956.
After working a year at Crown Zellerbach Paper Co. she had saved enough money for tuition to start college at BYU. There as a sophomore she met the love of her life, Charles Wallace Watson. They were married August 27, 1959, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple, followed by nearly 65 years of sweet living and loving. Their seven children are: Michelle (stillborn while students at BYU); Lori (Scott Pierce); Melanie (Pete Leonard); Karen (Joe Orr); Kathy (Brett Brown); Matthew Lee (Kathryn Thomas), and David Lee. Diane and Chuck have 25 grandchildren and nearly 60 great-grandchildren.
Diane loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served twice as a Relief Society President in Thatcher, Arizona. She and her husband served three missions after retirement. One was at the LDS Church Conference Center in SLC; the second on the Church ranch in Nebraska; and the latest a digitizing mission for FamilySearch in Darlington, SC. She served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Utah Temple for more than a dozen years.
Physical activity was her favorite. She was a jogger for many years; she enjoyed aerobics classes and swim classes. She was an avid quilter and made the best homemade apple pies ever! But her greatest passions were homemaking, being a mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother.
Diane dearly loved her family and friends. She was a true example of Christ-like kindness, goodness and grace. She sought to live a life of service and always had a kind word to share. She will be deeply missed.
