Diane Darling Stapley

May 10, 1940 — December 28, 2022

Diane Darling Stapley 82, of Clearfield, Utah, passed away on Wednesday December 28, 2022 of natural causes surrounded by her family. She was born in American Fork to Edmore and Margurite Darling. Her fondest memory as a child was being chosen to be Pleasant Grove Strawberry Queen because her dad took her to the beauty shop, had her hair done, and bought her dress to pull her everywhere on a float. He died shortly thereafter.

She grew up in Provo where she attended school and was on the marching team. She later married Hal Spencer Stapley. Work took them to Davis County where she remained the rest of her life. They had four children and raised them in Layton, Utah. They were married 20 years before divorcing.

Diane was an avid golfer, was on the women’s league and her sons loved to play with her. She bowled at Davis Lanes on the Wednesday Wonders. She was a great gardener and won many awards for best yard. She was a master seamstress, did road shows, costumes for dance, and bridesmaid dresses. She was a great cook and baker and kept a meticulous house. When she was home it was a happy place.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many church callings, from relief society, Sunday school superintendent, and primary throughout her life, her favorite calling being a Sunbeam teacher. Later Endowed in the Bountiful Temple and was faithful to the end.  She managed the Wonder bread thrift store. Her second job was at Alpha Beta grocery store – first

opened in Centerville and ended up closing the Riverdale location.

The thing she loved most is being a mother and a grandma, and a great grandma. She loved supporting her children in all their activities and continued that with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She lived a life that her children have strived to emulate. She was full of love and support for her family, and she lived a Christ-like life. They will miss her and look to when they are together again and as her granddaughter so beautifully stated, “heaven gained one of the great ones.”

She is preceded in death by her Dad: Edmore Darling, Mom: Marguerite Darling Sorensen, Brother: Bruce Darling, and son: Jeff Stapley. Survived by Brother, Gary (Debbie) Darling, Son: Todd (Darci) Stapley, Daughter: Sheri (Bret) Rackham, Son: Derrick (Holly) Stapley; 11 grandchildren: Tyson, Alisha, Taylor, Trevor, Breanne, Royce, Dax, Brooks, Gavin, Riley, Brock and 11 great grandchildren.
