Dennis Duane Wakefield, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024. He was born on February 21, 1939, a son of George Ellis and Phyllis Payne Wakefield. Dennis graduated from Weber High School and Weber States College with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. At Weber States College he was affiliated with both Lambda Delta Sigma Fraternity and the Young Democrats.
On October 17, 1962, he married Louise Allred in the Logan LDS Temple.
He did some missionary work for The Church of Jessus Christ of Latter-day Saints while serving on the Island of Guam while in the Navy. He later served a fulltime mission in Central America, working in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
Dennis retired from the Defense Depot Ogden serving as a Distribution Facilities Manager. He was a member of the Federal Managers Association where he served on the Board of Directors, as Vice President and Chairman of the Legislative Action Committee. He had been a member of the American Federation of Government Employees where he served as a committee chairman, shop steward, and vice president. He had sat on both the Utah State AFGE Council and the Northern Utah Labor Council.
Dennis filled a number of administrative and teaching positions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including a calling as an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Temple.
He enjoyed his family, reading, golf, and good music.
Dennis is survived by his wife of South Ogden and daughter, Jill Wakefield. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Evans and Lana Wakefield; his parents; brother, Gary Wakefield; and sister, Karlene McAtee.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy and Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to help cover the cost of the services.
