Dennis Durbano
October 17, 1953 ~ June 3, 2017
Dennis B. Durbano passed away from pancreatic cancer on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Ogden, Utah surrounded by his family.
Dennis was born at Hill Air Force Base to Bonnie and Ernie Durbano in 1953. He was the oldest of five children. He spent the early part of his life in Roy, Utah, before the family moved to Layton, Utah. Dennis graduated from Layton High School, where he met the love of his life, Linda Kay Smith. The two were married on November 11, 1972 and had three children, Stacie, Jed and Stefanie.
He was defined by his strong work ethic. In 1974 Dennis and his father founded Durbano Metals, a company specializing in scrap metal recycling and emergency railroad recovery work, which utilizes heavy equipment to clear train derailments in Utah and surrounding states. He enjoyed working with his father and brother, Bruce, then later his son, Jed. Scrap metal was his life and he enjoyed every aspect of the business. He was a self-taught master businessman. All who knew him could attest to his honesty and integrity. With his success in business, Dennis always found a way to give back and support the Ogden community.
Dennis enjoyed the outdoorsman hobbies such as fly-fishing, hunting, and horseback riding. He and his family enjoyed working cattle on the E-D Ranch in Malad, Idaho for many years. Later in life, Dennis found the Lord Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible. This welcome change brought him tremendous fulfillment and peace. He looked forward to his bible study group.
Outside of work and church, his life revolved around his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Linda Kay Durbano. Dennis was devoted in many aspects of his life but his wife took precedence. A perfect evening always included watching a movie at home with his sweet wife.
Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vern and Gertrude Bowen; Victor and Carmela Durbano; father, Ernie Durbano; and son-in-law, John Haaser.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Kay Durbano; mother, Bonnie Durbano Burtenshaw; siblings, Doug, Dana, Bruce and Gina; children, Stacie (Rich) Fiet, Jed (Sue) Durbano, Stefanie (Dave) Jensen; eight grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas, Anabel, Jack, Wesley, Sasha, Julia and Lyla.
His wife and children are very thankful for having Dennis in their lives. He was a role model and caretaker to all of them and he will be missed every day.
Dennis was a strong supporter of the Ogden community. In Lieu of flowers, please support The Lantern House.
