Dennis passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He was born in Ogden, Utah on June 23, 1939 to Kenneth Julian Draayer and Ruth Briggs Draayer. Dad was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to serve a mission in the North Eastern States Mission which included parts of Canada. Dennis was sealed to his sweetheart, Norma Jones Draayer on February 14th, 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served faithfully in various callings throughout his life.
Dad found joy on the family farm and became an avid horseman and farmer. He was a very skilled chariot driver, and loved the excitement of a good race. Dennis owned and trained many horses, his favorite of which was HeFlys, his beloved quarter horse that broke records and won several championships.
Dad served in the United States Air Force Reserve and was a member of the 419th fighter squadron at Hill AFB for 28 years until his retirement in 1998. He graduated from Weber State University and went on to be an educator in the Davis County School District teaching English and other subjects at Central Davis Junior High for 32 years, retiring in 2004.
Dennis was a wonderful husband and father who loved to play golf with family and friends. Some of the best memories we ever made as a family were the countless hours we spent on the golf courses of the Wasatch Front; talking, laughing and telling stories. Dad would always beat us all by several strokes. He was a talented player, winning the Utah Senior Match play championship in 2002 at Westridge Golf Course.
Dad had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick to make others laugh right up until he passed. He could always lift spirits and brighten days with his wit. He was gentle, a great teacher and showed us unconditional love. We look forward to, and know that one day we will be reunited with him.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Norma; his son Brian (Tiffany); his grandchildren, Trey, Breklen and Talyn; his sister Linda Hogge (Jerry); Sister-in-Law Bonnie Draayer; Cousins Kent Draayer and Karen Baliff (Art); and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Dad was preceded in death by his Father Kelly and Mother Ruth; Brother Clark Draayer; Mother-in-Law Emma Wagner Jones, and Father-in-Law Horace Allen Jones; Uncle Claude and Aunt Helen Draayer; and Niece Julie Hall (Jeff).
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Ogden Regional Medical Center for their tireless efforts in taking care of Dad.
