Dennis Dane Attebery was born on January 19th, 1947 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Clarence Edward and Betty Nell Overholt Attebery. Dennis was the youngest of three sons, with older brothers Lyman and Gary, and had a younger sister, Brenda.
At the age of 11, Dennis's family moved to Layton, Utah. He graduated from Davis High School in 1965 and then joined the United States Air Force. After leaving military service, he went on to work at Hercules (ATK) where he would remain until his retirement. In addition to his work at ATK, Dennis built and ran a successful business for 15 years. It was through this work that he met his wife and soul mate, and on March 7th, 1996 he married the love of his life, Rene Parsel.
While Dennis never had children of his own, he welcomed and loved Rene's three daughters. So great was their love for the girls that they even got married on their daughter Trisha's birthday, at her request. Dennis and Rene enjoyed 13 years of marriage, before Rene's untimely passing in March 2009 at the age of 46.
At the time of Rene's passing, she and Dennis were working through the process to adopt two of their grandchildren. Even through his grief at the loss of his beloved Rene, he honored her by accepting the responsibility of adopting and raising Kaloni and Lee on his own. Dennis was a man of faith and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and after the adoption was finalized, the Attebery family was sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden Temple. Dennis and Rene shared a deep love of animals and family. To them, there was nothing more important, and Dennis was known to do all he could to provide support to the people he loved.
Dennis had a great love of Halloween. His family remembers fondly his elaborate costumes, going all out for his favorite holiday. So it is only fitting that his memorial will be held on Halloween. In the end, Dennis definitely got the last laugh!
Dennis is survived by his older brother Gary (Margaret) Attebery, and younger sister Brenda Corbin. He is also survived by his three daughters, Mistie Manning (Marshall Miller) ,Trisha Melton (David Nelson), Kaloni (Dakota) Anderson, and his son, Lee Attebery. Dennis will be missed by his four grandchildren, Abbie, Alix, Mason, and Lonna.
Dennis Dane Attebery was a one of a kind man with a heart of gold, and his family will miss him terribly, but we rest easy knowing he is reunited with family members gone before him. He was a fighter, and he fought until it was time for him to lay down his burden. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Intermediate and Intensive Care staff at McKay Dee Hospital for doing all they could to aid him in his fight and making him comfortable in his final moments.
