Deloris Jean Jeffries Lund
November 29, 1937 ~ February 20, 2018
Dee was called home peacefully on February 20, 2018 to be reunited with her sweetheart, Bob, after a courageous and valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Deloris Jean Jeffries Lund was born on November 29, 1937 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the first born child of Coke and Alma McGonigle Jeffries who taught her the importance of service and love for others. She was raised in Vernal, Utah, and loved to hunt, fish, and camp in her family’s playground – the Uintah Mountains.
Dee married Robert Miller Lund on April 27, 1963 in Vernal, Utah. She was converted to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ her whole life and was finally baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after her wedding. Bob and Dee were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1965, and would later return to Temple Square to serve as fulltime missionaries in 2005-06. She served in every capacity of church and community service and upheld the example taught by her parents.
Dee is a graduate of Uintah High School 1956, and continued her education as a Hawkeye where she earned her degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Iowa in 1959. Her Utah Dental Hygienist license was #5 and she was a pioneer in getting Dental Hygienists accepted into Utah dental practices. She promptly gave up working to become a mom and raised four handsome boys of her own, and many more through scouting. She had to wait many years before she would get her girls in the form of daughters-in-law, granddaughters, sister missionaries, and young women.
She loved working with children, youth, and especially boys. She always had a vested interest in boys. She was an enthusiastic scouter and devoted over 30 years to developing youth and leaders to understand the character of Christ instilled in the scouting program. She served in all aspects of scouting from a Den Mother and Merit Badge Counselor to the Council Commissioner of Cub Scouts in the Lake Bonneville and Trapper Trails Councils. Dee is a recipient of the Silver Beaver and many other scouting recognitions.
She was extremely gifted in the art of unconditional and instant love. She was the greatest fan of her boys and grandkids and never missed a chance to be cheering from the sidelines for her kids. She had incredible dexterity and did intricate tole painting, cross-stitching, and sewing projects. She was an avid walker and snow skier and a true advernturer. Dee was a true renaissance woman even to the point of mastering the transcontinental tent trailer family camping excursion which included camping in New York City and Washington, D.C.
Dee was always the life of the party and quite content to be outlandish. She could never sit still and watch but always wanted to be involved in everything around her. She was the instigator of many impromptu activities including parades, bands, skits, songs, and of course parties. Throughout her whole life, she loved to dress in costumes, sing, dance, smile, and laugh.
Dee is survived by her four sons, Jeffrie (Ann) Lund, Cristopher (Wendi) Lund, Trace (Brooke) Lund, and Trent (Wendy) Lund; her brother, Jim (Sandy) Jeffries; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Miller Lund; her father, Coke Richey Jeffries; and her mother Alma Ruan McGonigle Jeffries.
Special thanks to the staff of The Abbington – Mapleton and Symbii Home Health and Hospice for the love, devotion and kindness shown, and allowing our Mom a wonderful quality of life as she confronted aging, loss, dementia, and Alzheimer’s for the past two years.
