Our sweet mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted friend, Debra J. Hastings, 70, graduated, at her home, from this earthly life on April 30, 2025. She was born on November 15, 1954, in Weber County, the daughter of Arthur L. Johnson and Evelyn F. Evans.
Debra graduated from Ben Lomond High School. In school her interests were in the Arts and Illustrations. Before graduation from high school, she started her family with Clarence N. Brooks in December of 1979 and she was blessed with six daughters. Debra and Clarence would later divorce.
In May of 1987, Debra married Daniel C. Hastings and would later welcome a son. Debra and Daniel were married for 32 years and at the time of his passing in November 2019, experiencing many opportunities for celebration and heartbreaks along the way.
Debra was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mom ‘Debra’ was devoted to her first job and calling as a mother, doing all she could to support and raise seven children…almost all girls and sassiness. She was also committed to her job at Fresenius Medical Products where she produced life-saving products for clients that were on Kidney dialysis. She took her job very seriously and although she was the lead of her line, you found her working and teaching alongside her co-workers. She never expected you to do things at work that she wasn’t also willing to do herself. She took a great amount of pride in her work and was deeply respected. Debra worked for Fresenius for 25 years upon her retirement.
Mom was an exceptional artist! Her first found love being drawing and illustrations. Most of her work in this area was cartooning, where her drawings were dramatically funny and indulgent. As years moved on, she loved creating patterns for Christmas ornaments that she would sew and detail by hand, passing along to her children. At times they were cherished gifts to others as newlywed gifts or bridal shower gifts. Mom then became a meticulous porcelain doll maker, sanding greenware, firing greenware, and painting porcelain. All stages have to be just right. This talent she shared with her mother, Evelyn.
Mom was also an avid reader. She loved reading a good thriller and would often follow a particular author until she had read all of their books and then begin a new author and series of books. She has several Nooks and Kindles with many uploaded. All having been read and enjoyed. At the time of her passing she was an avid fan of the television series “Blue Bloods.” However, I’m thinking, she had a big of a crush on Tom Selleck. 😊
Debra is survived by her children, Adam J Hastings of Ogden, Utah; Linda M. Wilson of Garland, Utah; Monica E. Brooks of Ogden, Utah; Billie (Scott) Kennedy of Ogden, Utah; Taryn (Rick) Sandberg of Brigham City, Utah; Amiee Heald of Tremonton, Utah; and Sarah Cox (Micah Downey) of Harrisville, Utah. Mom has 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Danny (Ruth) Johnson of Blackfoot, Idaho; and Art (Sue) Johnson of Willard, Utah; stepbrother, Paul (Cindy) Clough of Clinton, Utah; and her forever sister, Stephaine Johnson of Roy, Utah; and stepsister, Kathy (Gary) Mortimer of Tremonton, Utah.
