Listen to Obituary

David Carl Wheelwright, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and devoted servant of those around him, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at this home in Layton, Utah, at the age of 58.

David was born on September 23, 1967, and raised in Roy, Utah. From a young age, he was known as a peacemaker. His mother lovingly recalled that David would often gently diffuse tension by saying, “To me, it seems like…” ---a phrase that brought calm and understanding into their home. It was a quality he carried with him all his life, one that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. His wife, Dianna, described him simply and beautifully as a selfless, service-oriented man --- someone who found his greatest fulfillment in quietly showing up for others.

David was an Eagle Scout, a distinction that spoke to the integrity and dedication he demonstrated throughout his life. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from Weber State University --- a perfect fit for a man who genuinely loved chemistry and the pursuit of knowledge. He devoted his career to laboratory work across the state of Utah and found additional joy as a substitute teacher, where he delighted in sparking curiosity in students of all ages. He loved to read, to learn, and in his younger years delighted in hiking and exploring the outdoors.

Faith was a central thread woven through David’s life. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served with quiet dedication in many callings, including Executive Secretary, ward missionary, Ministering brother, and Sunday School Teacher --- roles that reflected both his reliability and his genuine love for those he served. He was known for his diligent preparation, often practicing lessons with grandparents and thoughtfully considering how gospel principles could be applied to the individual lives of those around him. A scripture close to his heart was Isaiah 51:7; “Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.” David was a man who strived to live faithfully, without need for recognition or praise, simply because it was right.

David is survived by his beloved wife of over ten years, Dianna Killpack Wheelwright, and his five children from his previous marriage to Kimberly Murray (now Kimberly Jones); Aaron (Kiersten) Wheelwright, Emily (Christian) Peterson, Leah (Clay) Dustin, Sarah (Pierce) Jones, and Joshua Wheelwright. He is also survived by four cherished grandchildren, his parents Carl Ralph and Karen Wheelwright, and his siblings: Sheralle McMillan, Mark Wheelwright, Laura Nishimoto, Paul Wheelwright and Nancy Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Keith and Dora Broadhead, and Ralph and Mary Wheelwright.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Layton Emerald Ward, 1325 E. Cherry Lane, Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Interment will be held at the Ogden City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in David's memory to assist his wife during this time via Venmo at  @Dianna-Lee-18

David's gentle spirit, his gift for peace, and calm and understanding he brought into every room will be deeply missed, but his legacy of quiet kindness remains with all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
