David Hales Ogden

At 6:55 p.m., January 14, 2024, David Hales Ogden, returned to his Father in Heaven and Savior after his battle with Parkinson’s disease and post-polio syndrome. He lived a true life of discipleship. Through his earthly trials and successes, he built a testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ.

David was born to John William Ogden and Erma Rae Hales on the 9^th of February 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

After graduating from South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Air National Guard. He served for eight years, including time at Kesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi where he attended the U.S. Air Force Radar Operation School. He was honorably discharged as an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War.

David served faithfully in multiple callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man he served as a missionary in the French Mission and developed a love for France’s people and culture. In the late 1970s, he assisted in the remodel of the London Temple, where he also served as an ordinance worker.

At an early age he developed a love for serving others. He served in Boy Scouts of America and earned the Silver Beaver and a Doctor of Commissioner Science in Scouting. He served as a volunteer at Primary Children’s Hospital and blessed the lives of many children and their families.

David worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 25 years and contributed his knowledge and skills to the building of chapels, temples, the Salt Lake Institute of Religion near the University of Utah, and other buildings of the Church.

Regardless of his callings in the Church or positions of service in the community, his favorite calling was Grandpa. He loved helping his grandsons as they worked on merit badges and earning their Eagle award in Boy Scouts. He treated his granddaughters as the princesses they are. He taught all of them to pray to find solutions to their challenges and to listen to the Holy Ghost to receive answers to those prayers.

David is survived by his dear wife of 20 years, LaDonna Stettler Ogden. He is also survived by his children John Terry Ogden, David Brice & Lorie Ogden, Devon Hales & Brenda Ogden, Kimberli Anne & Scott Dunbar, Amy Jean & Alex Whitlock, Alex W. Barnett, and Allison Joan & David Ashby. He has 27 grandchildren & three great-grandchildren.

He was welcomed with open arms by his loving parents, John William Ogden & Erma Rae Hales, his loving wife, Judith Annette White Ogden, of 41 earthly years and eons into the eternities.

Funeral services will be held Friday January 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairfield Chapel, 380 S. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Thursday January 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Interment, Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, Utah.
