David W. Likens, 62, passed away on April 11, 2026, in Layton, Utah, surrounded by his loving family, after courageously battling Frontotemporal Dementia and Aphasia for over five years.
To know Dave was to love him. He was full of life, known for his humor, kindness, and the way he made people feel welcome and valued. His family meant everything to him, and he loved deeply and unconditionally.
Dave was born on October 30, 1963, in Bitburg, Germany. He spent most of his life in Michigan, where he graduated from Addison High School in 1981. That same year, he joined the United States Air Force and was later stationed at Camp Darby in Pisa, Italy, and at Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield, Utah.
While stationed in Utah, Dave met the love of his life, Andrea Chelemes. They were married in the Greek Orthodox Church in 1987 and built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they raised two children, who were Dave’s pride and joy, Christina and Alexander.
Dave worked as a payroll manager for Autoliv for over 20 years, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Outside of work, he found joy in fishing, traveling, working in his yard, being outdoors, camping, and trying his hand at golf. He also had a deep love for music—whether it was playing in the background at home or during a drive, it was always part of his life, bringing him joy even in his final days. He was known for his signature air guitar.
Dave was a devoted sports fan. Whether he was watching his children or grandchildren play, following high school athletics, or cheering on college and professional teams, he loved it all. He was an avid fan of the University of Michigan, as well as the Detroit Red Wings, Lions, and Tigers.
He had a special love for animals, especially dogs, which brought him great joy throughout his life. He also had the biggest, sweet tooth and never passed up a good treat.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea Likens; his children, Christina (Steven) Brimhall and Alexander (Bailey) Likens; and his treasured grandchildren, Andy, CJ, Scott, and Maggie. He is also survived by his stepmother, Marcy Likens; his brothers, John Likens, Harrold Likens, and Chuck Matthews; his sisters, Diane Likens and Debbie Matthews; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harrold Likens; his mother, Joan Likens; his sister, Terri; his brother, Kenneth Matthews; and his grandparents.
Dave will be remembered for his love of life, his devotion to his family, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (theaftd.org) or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cff.org). The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sunridge Memory Care for the care and compassion shown to Dave.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
May his memory be eternal.
