David Rollin Ellis

On January 12, 2026, David Rollin Ellis passed away at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah from complications of surgery and pneumonia.

Dave was born May 16, 1956, in Ogden, Utah to Rollin Boise Ellis and Maxine Russell. He was welcomed by two older sisters, Christine and LeAnn and was the older brother of Karen, Robert and Cindy.

He attended schools in Ogden, Logan, and Fresno, California, graduating from McLane High School and earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from Weber State.

Dave loved his job building flight simulators. Unfortunately, his career was cut short by worsening scoliosis and after having extensive surgery that left him disabled, he was forced to retire early.

Dave always found a way to accomplish what he wanted to do. He loved camping and riding his RZR with his two dogs Babe and Scooter.

He was always puttering around his house. He designed a solar system for his home and was able to install it with the help of family. He had a very intuitive mind. He came up with unique puzzles out of wood that were quite amusing. He also had a beautiful yard and garden before it became too difficult to maintain.

He also loved making our mother a beautiful cedar chest. We was very detailed minded with his woodworking and was good at it even though he was limited in what he could do. He made modifications to his toy hauler that enabled him to keep camping up until the last few years. He had a way of making things work more efficiently and easier for himself with his limited physical abilities. Riding his RZR gave him a sense of freedom and power. Despite his limitations and constant pain, Dave always had a project planned. He always attended family gatherings and camping trips and had fun games and gadgets for the nieces and nephews to try.

Dave never married.

Dave is survived by his sisters, Christine (Tim) Parkinson) of Wellsville and Karen (Bruce) Abbott of Layton and his brother, Robert Ellis also of Layton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that thought the world of him. Per Dave’s request, there will be no service. His body has been donated to the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.

There will be a private service for family at a later date.
