David Dowdy, age 72.99, passed away on January 20, 2026, in Ogden UT after a long-fought illness.
He was born on January 28, 1953, in Radford Virginia, a son to the late David and Mary Dowdy.
After graduating Christiansburg High School, David proudly served in the U.S. Army until he was medically discharged. He went on to own a used car lot before working for the state of Virginia as a correctional officer. Prior to his retirement, he worked on completing extraditions with the FBI.
David was already the greatest Dad ever, but it was even better to see him as a Paw-Paw to Lily and Freya. David’s “girls” were his world, and it was obvious. He enjoyed sitting out by the water with his fishing pole and cigar for hours. When David was younger, he loved to go hunting. David loved the Virginia Tech Hokies, San Francisco 49ers, and Atlanta Braves. Every Sunday, you could find him watching the NASCAR race. David and Jessica spent many summers traveling to Atlanta, GA for a week full of Braves games and adventures.
David is survived by his Pal and daughter, Jessica (Josh) Aydlette and two granddaughters, Lily and Freya. He is also survived by three sisters, Charlotte Broyles, Ann Cumbee, and Sue Entsminger; six nieces and three nephews. In addition, David leaves behind his lifelong friend Billy Bishop. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Dowdy; brother, Henry Dowdy; and sister, Elizabeth May Montford.
David requested that there be no formal memorial service (If you knew Dad, this makes total sense!) There will be a private family gathering at a later time.
We would like to extend our special appreciation to Kevin of Gardner Transportation for being his personal chauffeur and friend for many years and the kindness of the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care.
David will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew him. His love, his patience, and his presence leave a lasting imprint on his family’s hearts.
