Our sweet dad, papa, brother, uncle, and friend was set free to be with his beloved Rose after many years struggling with health issues.
Dave was the fourth son to Alvin E Helquist and Vilda Jessen in Richfield, Utah in December 1948. His father was a rancher/farmer and mother a schoolteacher. Dave was a free spirit roaming the city park next to his home experiencing many childhood adventures until age 11 when his family moved to Layton, Utah. Dave made many lifelong friends in Layton, graduating from Davis High School in 1967. While at Davis High, Dave met the love of his life Rose Larsen, and on March 4, 1968 they were married.
In August of 1967 during the Vietnam War Dave joined the U. S. Air Force where he served as a Security Policeman. Dave and Rose served together at Mather AFB California and Bitburg Air Base Germany. They were honorably discharged and returned to Utah where Dave began working for Kaysville City as a Police Officer. He served the community for 35 years. He served as Chief of Police for 17 years. Dave and Rose brought three beautiful daughters into the world, Christy Ann, Heidi Marie, and Annalisa.
Dave also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and retired after 20 years of service as a Security Policeman. He graduated from Weber State University with a degree in Police Science and he graduated from the Utah Police Academy 36 session and FBI National Academy 128 session.
Dave loved Rose, his family, car rides, a beautiful yard and flowers, driving his RZR on the trails of beautiful Utah, eating good food, vacations, music, and photography. Rose and Dave loved the beautiful outdoors especially the Tetons and National Parks where many wonderful memories were created with their family and friends.
Dave is survived by his daughter; Heidi, Annalisa (Bryan), grandkids; Brexton, Maximus, Sadie Rose, and Liam. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Therald, Larry, wife Rosemarie Larsen and daughter Christy Ann.
