Listen to Obituary

Darlene Turner Warren, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, returned to her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 27, 2025. She passed peacefully, with devoted family at her side.

One of Darlene’s most treasured traditions was spending Christmas Eve surrounded by her family — a night filled with joy, laughter, and love that she looked forward to all year long. This year, her heartfelt wish was to once again have her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren by her side, and that wish was fulfilled. More than 140 family members gathered around her, continuing the tradition she began so many years ago. Darlene greeted each loved one by name, sharing smiles and tender words that her family will hold dear forever.

Born on October 2, 1931, in Afton, Wyoming, Darlene was the fourth of six children born to Gilbert Charles and Betsy Vilate Erickson Turner. After graduating from Star Valley High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Gaylen D. Warren. Together they built a beautiful life and home for their five children, first in Ogden and later in Washington Terrace.

Darlene began her career at American Foods before joining the Internal Revenue Service as an examiner. While working full-time, she took correspondence courses through Weber State College to further her education. Through hard work and dedication, she advanced to become a Branch Manager at IRS Ogden, retiring as a GS-14. She achieved this through determination and skill, without a formal college degree. Darlene was deeply respected by her colleagues and built many lasting friendships during her career.

Darlene’s faith guided every part of her life. She found great joy serving as a Temple Worker and as Stake Relief Society President. Her testimony of the gospel was unwavering, and she shared it most powerfully through her love and example.

Family was the center of Darlene’s heart. She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren, whether playing Uno, Bingo, or a fiercely competitive game of Checkers. She loved camping and cherished time spent at her son Brent’s cabin.

Darlene had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, often making others laugh when they least expected it. One of her favorite sayings, “It just tickles me,” perfectly captured her joyful spirit. Sharp as a tack and full of common sense, she was thoughtful and attentive, always remembering names and details of others’ lives. Known as the family’s “Mama Bear,” Darlene was protective, wise, and devoted, always cheering her loved ones through every milestone.

She and Gaylen shared many adventures together — traveling across the country to Church historical sites, exploring Europe, and spending cherished winters as snowbirds in Arizona. After Gaylen’s passing in 2003, Darlene continued to find joy in life, often traveling with family and her dear sister Gayle, especially to Tuacahn in St. George.

Darlene’s legacy is one of love, faith, and family.

Darlene is survived by her children, Dahl (Barbara) Warren of North Ogden, Sandra (Richard) Smith of Taylor, Brent (Mary Jane) Warren of West Haven, and Scott (Kelly) Warren of Kaysville; 26 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylen; her son, Vahl T. Warren; her grandson, Shon Warren; her parents; and her siblings, Elaine, Keith, Don, Rex, and Gayle.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Darlene’s granddaughter, Jacqui Ball, for her devoted care and invaluable guidance throughout Darlene’s final year. Her support made an immeasurable difference. The family also wishes to thank Darlene’s dear friends and the compassionate staff at Seasons Assisted Living for their kindness and care.
