Daniel Murray Cottrell

1953 – 2023

Daniel Murray Cottrell, of Woods Cross, passed away at home on August 9, 2023.  He was born to L. Lee Cottrell and Marilyn MacDonald on May 7, 1953 in Fresno, California, and lived most of his youth in Camarillo, California.

Dan was a talented artist, a skilled tradesman, and an all-around funny guy.  If Dan was in the group, it was guaranteed that someone--if not everyone--would be laughing. 

He married the love of his life, Shelley Mardis; and for over 30 years, they made a home together in Woods Cross.  After Shelley’s passing in 2021, Dan lost his best friend and his interest in persevering.  He lived out his remaining days quietly in their home as he looked forward to a great reunion with Shelley.

Dan is survived by his stepsons:  Garret (Jamie) Balensiefer and Seth Balensiefer; brothers:  Jeffrey (Debra) Cottrell, Thomas (John) Cottrell, David (Marilee) Cottrell; sisters: Rebecca (Michael) Clark, and Donna (Loran) Allen; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.  Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary is handling the arrangements.  No services are planned.
