Daniel J. Barney, known to those who loved him as Dan, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 6, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on March 20, 1968, in Bountiful, Utah, Dan lived his entire life rooted in the community he called home.
Dan was many things, but above all else, he was a father. Nothing in this world made him prouder than his kids and grandkids. Whether it was grabbing a treat for fun, going to the movies and making sure the popcorn was buttered and salted, taking his kids to the park, hitting every ride at Lagoon, or sharing one of his silly little jokes, Dan showed his love through presence, laughter, and loyalty. Dan was never the type of guy to take shortcuts, if anything he added a few stops along the way. No one could rush him even if that meant he’d be last. He was goofy, mischievous, and endlessly funny, but he was also brave, strong minded, and fiercely determined when life called for it.
Dan built a career defined by hard work and reinvention. He started at Marriott In-Flight as a food coordinator, servicing airlines with meals, then spent many years as a flight attendant at SkyWest Airlines. Never one to stop pushing forward, he went back to school to earn his nursing degree and was working as a nurse at the time of his passing. That determination was simply who Dan was.
When he wasn't working, Dan could be found in the garden making sure the yard looked perfect, pulling little pranks, cooking up something good like his famous pancakes, or deep in family history research. He loved baseball, football, hockey, rock and roll, car/ truck shows, and a really good car wash. He loved to talk, and if you knew Dan, you knew that conversations with him were never boring.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Blaine Barney and Kathleen Jensen Barney, and his brother Paul Barney. He is survived by his brother Kevin Barney; his sister Diane Barney Simonsen; his sons, Dallas (Shelby) Barney, Dane Barney, and Tyler Barney; his daughters, Danielle Barney and Sydney (Beau) Hackworth; and his beloved grandchildren, Roe, Jax, Kove, Waylon, Cedryck, and Ivrie.
We are glad he is at peace. May he rest in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, knowing how deeply he was loved here.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2026 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Bountiful City Cemetery, officiated by Marshall Gardner. Pallbearers will be Dallas Barney, Dane Barney, Tyler Barney, Beau Hackworth, Jeimyn Fransen and Shane Shields.
Our dad never liked to say goodbye, so this is just a see you later. There was so much they wish they could have all done differently, one more talk, one more laugh, one more hug. His life reminds us to take the long ways, love hard, embrace life. They will carry on his silly little jokes and his love forever. See you later, Dad.
