Bluffdale

Dale Lyle Birch passed away peacefully on October 29th, 2024 from complications related to heart surgery. Dale was born and raised in Ashton, Idaho to Lyle and Merle Birch on October 21st, 1939. His childhood and teenage years were occupied with farm work, sports, and outdoor activities, most notably fishing.

He graduated from North Fremont High School and attended Utah State University where he met and married Eloise Oyler in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on August 19, 1960. Dale graduated from Utah State where he majored in Accounting and was a member of the PI Kappa Alpha fraternity. He pursued a career in finance and served as controller and chief financial officer for Salt Lake City businesses and municipalities. He retired from Kearns Improvement District in 2012.

He was a lifelong and devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for which he fulfilled numerous callings including Bishop, High Council, temple worker, and Young Men’s President. He was a dedicated student of LDS scriptures and teachings and oriented his life around service, preparedness, and Christian discipleship.

Dale served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1966 where he was honorably discharged as a Captain in the Utah Army National Guard. Upon completion of his military service, Dale and Eloise settled in West Valley City, Utah where they raised their family in the Granger 11th and 18th wards.

He loved a variety of sports and spent countless hours playing basketball, tennis, and ping pong with his children and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved nothing more than fishing the streams that fed Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. Family was the most precious part of Dale’s life and he is deeply loved, widely respected, and often emulated by children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Dale is survived by his wife Eloise and children Michael (Tayana) Birch, Brian (Janis) Birch, Natalie (Mitchell) Layton, Darin (Michelle) Birch, and Nanette (Shayne) Gibbons, twenty-two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and his brother Larry.
