Curtis Owen Groskreutz, 78, passed away on December 29, 2025, in Ogden, Utah. Born on March 12, 1947, in Carrington, North Dakota, Curtis lived a life marked by resilience, humor, and deep devotion to his family.
Curtis proudly served his country after being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. His time in service was a defining chapter of his life and one that shaped his enduring strength and character.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Janet; their children Shane (Raelyn), Jace, and Karyn (Dustin); his sister Sharon Fronk (Boyd); grandchildren Brielle (Kole), Nathan (Rylan), Kinley, and Raiden; and great-granddaughter Jovie June. He was preceded in death by his parents Marie and Herbert Groskreutz, his brother Leland “Biff,” and his sister Cynthia Yates.
Curtis had a lifelong passion for classic cars and could often be found talking about them with enthusiasm. In his younger years, he was an avid athlete who enjoyed baseball, track and field events as well as bowling. He continued to stay active through softball and baseball over the years—sports that brought him joy and camaraderie.
For more than 38 years, Curtis faced multiple degenerative illnesses with remarkable courage. The last eight years of his life were spent at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah. During this time, he formed meaningful friendships with fellow residents and staff members who provided him with exceptional care. His family is deeply grateful for the compassion shown to him there—they truly made him feel like family.
Curt will always be remembered for his infectious laughter, endless supply of silly dad jokes, and knack for storytelling. He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren, delighting in making them laugh and sharing moments that will be treasured forever.
May Curtis’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.
