Craig Harris Miller, beloved husband, father and grandfather of Alpine, Utah passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 11, 2025.
Craig was born on October 10, 1958 to Colin and Nancy Miller in Taber, Alberta Canada. As a young child, Craig moved with his parents from Canada to the United States where he would spend most of his childhood living in Provo and Bountiful, Utah. In Craig’s early years he could be found working on family farms, raising quarter horses on the Fort Ranch, archery hunting with family in southern Utah, driving the Zamboni on the ice rink at the Bountiful Recreation Center, and building cars and sand rails with his close friends. Craig excelled at swimming and loved playing on the water polo and swim team at Viewmont High School. He was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mission. Craig loved serving the people and fell in love with a good Philly Cheesesteak. Upon his return, he attended Brigham Young University and later graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Utah. While attending school he married the love of his life, Janet Gardner, in the Salt Lake Temple in 1983. Soon after graduation he was a software engineer for Morton Thiokol, Unisys, and worked for the United States Air Force on numerous weapon systems. He later was the Sr. Vice President and General Manager of the Net Management Division of Novell, Inc. This engineering and software experience ultimately prepared him for an opportunity to become the Senior Vice President of FamilySearch Intl. For the past 23 years, Craig and his associates innovated and enhanced systems and solutions for people to easily find ancestors, connect families, preserve individual stories, and ultimately help people connect to the Savior.
He excelled in mathematics and software development, and loved many sports including basketball, football, baseball and hockey. He loved adventuring outdoors and enjoyed many activities such as archery hunting, hiking, rock climbing, and camping with church youth groups and family. He especially enjoyed taking the grandchildren on “Side by Side” rides, swimming, gardening and snowmobiling in the Western Uinta’s.
With graph paper and his trusty tool belt, he happily tackled countless home construction and remodeling projects and loved helping others. He cherished his time as a Sealer in the Mount Timpanogos Temple and loved serving in Highland and Alpine Wards and Stakes. He shared how much joy he felt from opportunities ministering to others. More than anything he was committed to his loving his wife and family and enjoyed creating memories together.
He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Craig is survived by his wife Janet; their five children: Steven (Lindsey) Miller, Lehi, UT; Megan (Carlos) Rodriguez, Saratoga Springs, UT; Mallory (Daniel) Welch, Saratoga Springs UT; Mckenzie (Shawn) Moffett, Oklahoma City, OK; Ty (Megan) Miller, Highland UT, and 17 grandchildren. Additional survivors include his siblings Scott (Jennifer) Miller, Peter (Chairl) Miller, and Elizabeth (Dave) Weeks. He was preceded in death by his parents Colin and Nancy Miller.
