Coy Elayne Shaffer, 83, a long-time resident of Smithfield, Utah, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Heritage Park Assisted Living Facility in Roy, on December 4, 2025.
Born March 24, 1942, in Logan, Utah, Elayne was the eldest of two children of George Ferris and Ruth Elaine Clawson Chambers.
Elayne graduated from Lewiston Elementary and then North Cache High School in Richmond, Class of 1960, prior to attending Business School at Utah State University.
She worked for several years at the Independent Studies Office for Utah State University, and then met the love of her life, Dan Scott Shaffer, in 1977 while square-dancing. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 6, 1978.
They settled in Smithfield together where they raised their son, Todd F. Shaffer.
Elayne was a very conservative woman with traditional values. She loved working in her garden and serving as a coordinator in the visiting teaching program of the Church.
Elayne will be remembered for being determined, diligent, and practical in her life, and very caring and a good listener regarding her relationships with family and friends. Elayne had tremendous endurance and was a woman of courage.
She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her best.
Elayne is survived by her husband, Dan Shaffer, Clinton; son and daughter-in-law, Todd (Amy) Shaffer, and their three sons, Benson, Kaleb, and Micah, also of Clinton; and by her brother and sister-in-law, Junior (LaRene) Chambers, Trenton, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family thanks the kind and professional staff of Heritage Park Assisted Living for their faithful care of Elayne.
