…Thou has covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works… Psalm 139:13-14

Coltan James Eastman Jr, or CJ, was born on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 3:05 a.m. and went to be with Jesus at 4:11 a.m. After learning that CJ’s time with us would likely be limited due to Trisomy 13, our family set out to experience life together while we were able. Over the next four months, CJ was able to do some of the things his family loves most. He went camping, fishing, ate at favorite restaurants, attended Utah sporting events, visited a national park, cheered on the Jazz, golfed, went on a road trip, celebrated Christmas and Thanksgiving, had a half-birthday party, visited both oceans, rode an airboat through the everglades, took a number of flights, rode rollercoasters, and even visited Disneyland. He was also blessed to enjoy some of the simpler pleasures of life like a beautiful sunset over the ocean, eating a snow cone in the heat of the summer, playing on a playground with his sister, listening to lots of good music, taking a drive through the canyon during the fall, cutting a fresh Christmas tree, a family snowball fight, beautiful Christmas lights, and watching the sunrise over the mountains. He also lived to experience Utah Football win the South Division and their first ever Pac-12 Championship! We also found he enjoyed juice, but not coffee, peaches, marshmallows, ice cream, soup, and peanut butter most of all.

Though compared to most, his time on earth was short, his life made an impact. He brought our family together and created lasting experiences and memories that we will always cherish. He impacted the life of other babies through donations on his behalf to a local pregnancy crisis center. He taught so many that no matter how bad the outlook may be, there is always a reason to keep fighting. And more than anything, he proved that God created him to change our lives and our world forever. His life was a constant reminder that tomorrow is not promised, and our lives are but a vapor. And as it says in 2 Cor.6:2, behold, now is the day of salvation.  Salvation that comes through faith in Jesus and Jesus alone. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph.2:8-9

A celebration of CJ will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Faith Baptist Church (2430 N Fairfield Rd, Layton 84041) at 11:00 a.m. In honor of his life and all that he brought to us, we ask that you wear your favorite color to create a beautiful rainbow in his memory – a symbol of God’s faithfulness and promises to us.

We’ll love you forever, CJ! Dad, Mom & your big Sister

…I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. 2 Samuel 12:23
