Colleen Beus Tippets

July 11, 1928 ~ October 19, 2016

Colleen Beus Tippets died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.   She was born July 11, 1928 and grew up on a farm where she learned to work hard.  She went to Hooper Elementary, Weber High and Weber Jr. College.  She then served a mission for the LDS church to the New England States, and after her return, went to BYU and got a BS degree in teaching. She taught for both the Weber and Ogden School Districts for a combination of 12 years, allowing her to have time off to raise her children.

Colleen married John Tippets April 9, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and they had many happy years together.  She and John loved to go to Hooper Elementary and read with the children.  They served a mission at the LDS Cannery for 18 months and were instrumental in bringing the weekly lunch program provided to Seniors in Hooper.

She was active in the LDS Church, serving in many callings.  Her favorite was Primary chorister.  Colleen was an active member of the Hooper Women’s Club, served in PTA, 4H, and was an election judge.  She was active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and served on the DUP Museum Board for many years.  She was humbled to be chosen as Ogden’s Pioneer Queen in 2002.

Service was important to Colleen, and the best service she gave was to her family and children.  She truly believed families are forever, and wanted to live worthy to be an eternal family.  She had a great love for her pioneer ancestry and instilled that love to her children.  She is survived by children, Peggy Tippets, Jannette (Gary) Borklund, Jeff (Ann) Tippets, Lisa (Dan) Johnson and Jim Tippets; sisters, Nola Jean (Art) Moore and Eileen (Brian) Cook, and brothers (Richard) Dick (Ella Rae) and Charles (Paula) Beus;11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband John, her daughter Cindy, grandson Jarod Johnson, granddaughter Sarah Alice Tippets and her parents Rodney and Alice Beus.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Hooper 2nd Ward Chapel, 5000 South 5900 West. The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
