Colby Chad Stephens

April 19, 1987 — June 23, 2025

Our son Colby Stephens passed away on June 23rd, 2025, after a sudden battle with medical issues. Born on April 19, 1987, Colby will always be remembered for his charm, prankster & joking nature, generosity to others even when he didn’t have much himself, and reckless abandon for trying new things (usually starting with “hey mom, watch this” followed by some sort of minor injury).

Colby was very active in his youth, participating in soccer, basketball, baseball and golf. His dad was always glad to coach his teams and particularly proud when Colby made the all-stars at shortstop on the baseball team. Family time at Bear Lake was always one of his favorite times. Staying with his grandparents and aunt’s family, riding wave runners with Alli, Paige, and Shalice, and golfing at the local course.

In addition to the family time they all shared, his mother remembers his soft nature, generosity and caring for others. He always sent his birthday wishes at 12:01 am to make sure he was the first one to be heard from. Colby was deeply hurt by the loss of his sister Shalice. Their sibling rivalry was strong, but they were also deeply loyal and loved each other very much. We’re not sure who is mediating right now, but we’re sure they are happy to be together again.

Finally, Colby loved his daughter Claire more than anything in the world. The time they spent together was cherished and enjoyed deeply. He often teased her, and she would tease him right back. They enjoyed scooter rides, swimming, and watching movies. He would paint her nails, and they would take turns giving each other back scratches.

It is very difficult to fathom Colby’s loss to our families; he had so much life in front of him and he will always be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughter Claire, father Scott Stephens (Toni), mother Sandy Boynton (Bill), sister Daryn Boynton and brother Brandon Gill (Katie), niece Vivian Gill, Aunt Gigi Percifield (Rich), cousins Alli & Paige, Grandmother Beverly Watkins, numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, many close friends and his beloved dog, Daisy.

He is preceded in death by his brother Nathan Stephens, sister Shalice Stephens, grandparents Sharon Scholer (Bruce), Ken Stephens (Joyce), Doug Adams (Kay), Mose Watkins.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor in the banquet room at the Valley View golf course (2501 E Gentile St, Layton, UT 84040) on July 7th, from 6-8 PM.
