Clyde Floyd Marx

Clyde Floyd Marx, O.D.

Clyde Floyd Marx was born September 8, 1939 in Price, Utah, to loving parents Floyd and Verda Mills Marx. On his birthday eight years later his brother Dale joined the family. Clyde always maintained that Dale was his best present ever.

Clyde passed away May 21, 2013. He had a beautiful life and it should have been longer. He grew up in Price, graduating from Carbon High and Carbon College where he was President of the Association of Men Students. He served an LDS mission to Northern California (1960-1962), returning to enroll at Brigham Young University where he served as Duke of Intercollegiate Knights (1964) and received a Bachelor of Science (1965). Then it was on to Illinois College of Optometry where he received another Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Optometry (1967). While there he served as class president. Clyde always loved Scouting. He became an Eagle Scout with 8 palms and was the recipient of the Silver Explorer Award. He was particularly proud to be part of the first group of scouts from Utah to attend Philmont Scout Ranch.

He married Dorothy Parsons on December 19, 1964 in the Manti, Utah, LDS temple and they were blessed with four daughters who treasure the example he set for them and their families. He instituted special traditions, waking them in the mornings with the BYU Fight Song and playing the "Temperature Game" each night around the dinner table. He listened, he loved and he showed his family his love by word and action. He set an example of a strong work ethic.

Clyde''s optometric career has been in Layton, Utah, where joined Dr. Hal Marsell at Layton Visual Center in 1967. He appreciated the friendship and loyalty of his patients. Clyde served three terms as Utah Optometric Association President, receiving the Optometrist of the Year Award in 1978. He served on the Board of Trustees of the American Optometric Association (1979-1981).

Clyde was a man of many talents and interests. His hobbies included restoring antique cars for which he received many awards. He spent the last several years immersed in doing genealogy work, producing several large volumes of family history. Other hobbies include flying his own airplane, scuba diving and raising tropical fish for competition. He served four missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Kaysville 10th Ward where he held many callings including counselor in the bishopric. Clyde served his community for two terms as Layton Rotary President and enjoyed many years serving on the Kaysville Planning Commission. The College of Eastern Utah presented him with the Outstanding Alumni Award (2005).

Clyde is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Kaysville; daughters Susan Greenhow, Clinton; MaryEllen (Steve) Carlson, Syracuse; Pam Jensen, North Salt Lake; and Rebecca (Curt) Warnick, Clearfield; brother Dale Marx, North Salt Lake; sister-in-law Barbara Bernstein, Ogden; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 10th Ward, 1039 E. Crestwood Road. Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
