Clara Rae Leatham Puffer, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home on May 17, 2026. She was born on July 17, 1934, in Logan, Utah, to her loving parents, Charles Bailey Leatham and Thelma LaRita Bateman Leatham. She was the second of four siblings and grew up in Wellsville, Utah, where she enjoyed a wonderful childhood surrounded by family, friends, and the rhythms of life on the family farm.
She attended schools in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School and Seminary in 1952. Clara Rae made her home in Roy City for nearly 70 years, where she lovingly raised her five children.
A gifted musician, Clara Rae shared her love of music for more than 50 years, teaching piano lessons in her home and blessing countless students with her talent, patience, and encouragement.
She also built a meaningful career at Weber State University where she served as the Supervisor of Admissions. She cherished her work there, forming many lifelong friendships. She retired from WSU after 20 years of dedicated service. While working at the university, she continued to pursue her own spiritual and educational growth. She attended Institute classes and became a proud graduate of Weber State University Institute of Religion.
Clara Rae was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. Her favorite calling was serving as ward organist, a role she fulfilled for over 65 years. She also served as an organist in the Ogden LDS Temple for six years and as an usher at the LDS Conference Center for six years. She loved the Savior with all her heart and exemplified His teachings in all she did.
Clara Rae cherished her dear group of friends lovingly known as “The Golden Girls.” Together they traveled to many states and several countries, sharing adventures, laughter, and deep friendship. They enjoyed movies, plays, luncheons, and many spirited card games.
She also loved swimming at the Roy City Complex nearly every morning for the past several years, where she made many treasured friends and found joy in their daily conversations and companionship.
Some of Clara Rae’s most cherished memories were made with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren—visiting the Pumpkin Patch every October, gathering for Christmas dinner at Grandma’s house, and enjoying countless family get-togethers and reunions.
Clara Rae is survived by her children: Cristie (Ron) Nicholas (Washington Terrace), Lex (Sharon) Puffer (Clinton), John Puffer (Roy), Jim (Jill) Puffer (Fruit Heights), and Nanci (Brent) Hart (Washington Terrace).
