A special lady passed away at 84 on February 24, 2012, taking her exceptional personal stardust home to her Father in Heaven.

Chine Maeda was born October 13, 1927 in Shingu City, Wakayama ken, Japan to Suekichi and Sawa Maeda. Educated in Japanese schools, Chine married Fletcher Wayne Pendergrass on November 4, 1959 in Yokohama and came to the states the following year. Accompanying her career Marine husband, Chine would spend almost five years at Quantico, VA where she had tea with Lady Bird Johnson.

In October of 1968 Chine and Wayne would adopt their son John Fletcher in Memphis, TN before the family moved to Fallbrook, CA and USMC retirement in August of 1972.

Moving to Hill AFB in September of ''78, Chine beautifully used her people skills in both church and secular settings. Churches included Clearfield Community Church, SLC Japanese Church of Christ and most recently, Full Gospel Zion Church of Layton. She was at one time a member of the Moonlighters Square Dance Club as well as a member of the Quest International Training in Communications Club.

A home going celebration with Pastor Brad Kramer of SLC Japanese Church of Christ officiating will be held for Chine on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. where friends may visit family from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Per Chine''s request, attendees are encouraged to wear bright colors and remember her for the sunshine girl she truly was.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
