Charles Bervard Smith

January 4, 1935 ~ May 1, 2016

Charles Bervard Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 1, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Bervard was born on January 4, 1935 in Providence, Utah.  He is the son of Walter A. and Aurelia Smith, and the youngest of eight children.  As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bervard enjoyed serving in many callings and positions in the church.  He married the love of his life, Joan Thompson, in the Logan LDS Temple.  They were married 60 wonderful years together and were blessed with four beautiful daughters.

Bervard was educated in the Ogden School system, graduating from Ogden High School.  He then attended Weber State College and the Midwest College of Commerce. Bervard worked in the banking profession for 33 years and loved his career.  Bervard retired from banking due to illness.

Bervard was gifted with immeasurable talents of which he was always delighted to share with others.  Those talents provided the ability to solve almost any problem that arose.  He will always be remembered for his quick wit and terrific sense of humor that made him adored by many.  Even until the end Bervard kept a smile on his face and a laugh in our hearts.  His family loved him dearly and he will be deeply missed.

Bervard is survived by his wife, Joan; his four daughters, Paula (Gary) Fluckiger of Hooper, Pamela (Arnold) Lowe of Oregon, Caroline (Rue) Hellstrom of South Ogden, Charla (Bret) Williams of Kaysville; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Aurelia Ringel of Ogden and Velma Hampton of California; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved puppy, Krissy.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, three sisters, and one grandchild all of whom joyously greeted him with open arms.

Our family would like to express our many thanks to Mt. Ogden Health and Rehabilitation Center and Brighton Hospice caregivers for their loving care; and a very special thanks to Alice and Sunny.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
