Charles “Chuck” Gordon Carr Jr., 83, passed peacefully in his sleep on February 16, 2026.

He was born on May 28, 1942, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Agnes Marie (Dobbs) Carr and Charles Gordon Carr Sr.

Chuck will be remembered for his kindness, selflessness, dry wit, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He was the kind of man who quietly stepped in wherever help was needed, never seeking recognition. His strength of character was especially evident after his wife Kathy’s automobile accident in 2002, which resulted in spinal cord injuries and partial paralysis. From that day forward, Chuck devoted himself fully to her support and care, meeting life’s unexpected challenges with patience, resilience, and deep love. He lived his marriage vows in action every single day.

During his childhood, Chuck moved from Saint Paul around the East Coast before eventually settling in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was raised by his single mother. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1960 and went on to attend Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado because of its fantastic location for hunting and fishing, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Business. It was there, surrounded by the mountains, that he developed his lifelong passion for skiing.

After college, Chuck began working as an insurance adjuster in Santa Fe before being drafted into the Vietnam War. He served as a counterintelligence specialist, earning a battlefield commission. Though he rarely spoke about his military service, he served with quiet honor and returned home safely.

While stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, Chuck met the love of his life, Kathleen Mary (Kmiec). They were married at the Post Chapel on March 22, 1969. Soon after, the Army stationed them in Hawaii for a year, where their first son, Mike, was born. After leaving military service, they returned to civilian life and settled in Colorado where their second son Jeremy was born.

Back in the Rockies, Chuck resumed his career in insurance while embracing the outdoor lifestyle he loved. He taught Kathy to ski and soon had both of their sons on skis as soon as they could walk. The mountains became the backdrop of their family life and the foundation of many cherished memories.

In 1978, an opportunity to operate their own Frontier Adjusters of Ogden franchise brought the family to South Ogden, Utah. There they built not only a business but a lifelong home and community. Chuck and Kathy became well established in the insurance industry and were proud lifetime members of the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose.

Their love of golf, skiing, and soccer flourished in Utah. They were longtime members of the Ogden Golf and Country Club, where lasting friendships were formed and their boys learned the game. Chuck also joined the Snowbasin Volunteer Ski Patrol, dedicating countless weekends to the slopes and supporting the kids’ youth ski racing. Chuck enjoyed sharing these passions with friends and family alike, teaching his grandkids the particulars of each as soon as they were old enough.

In addition to skiing, Chuck devoted many years to soccer, coaching and refereeing from youth leagues through high school and regional collegiate levels. He was widely respected as a referee for his fairness, steady judgment, and calm presence on the field.

Chuck and Kathy were charter members of Holy Family Catholic Church in South Ogden and took great pride in watching their parish grow from humble beginnings into the thriving church community it is today.

Chuck is survived by his sons, Mike (Noelle Briand) and Jeremy (Michael Quimby); his cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie and Logan; and extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his steady presence and generous heart. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen; and his parents.

Above all else, Chuck’s life was defined by devotion — to his country, his community, his church, and most especially his family. His steady presence, generous spirit, and quiet strength leave a lasting legacy of love that will continue through the generations who were blessed to know him.

The family would like to thank the many staff and health care professionals who have helped over the past two and half years: Treeo Senior Living of South Ogden and Fairfield Village Assisted Living of Layton. Particularly we'd like to highlight the affection and care from the CNAs at Avamere, the kindness and understanding of the entire admin and healthcare team at Fairfield Village Memory Care and lastly the A-Plus Hospice team's focused care allowing our dad dignity and peace in his final weeks and days.

A celebration of life will be held in late spring/early summer to allow out of town family and friends to attend. Interment for close family will be held after at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., South Ogden.

Arrangement entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
