Charles Matthew Bishop, 93, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026. He was born on September 9, 1932, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Mathiew A and Thelma Bishop.
He married Irene Ogata on September 19, 1955.
Charles loved his country and served in the Army during the Korean War, retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Master Sergeant, and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 11 years – the highest rank held was a Division Captain. After years of serving in the military, he retired from Hill Air Force Base civil service as a navigation computer repairer and software quality.
Charles was a member of the Ogden Japanese Christian Church and was assistant scoutmaster for the Ogden Buddhist Church boy scout troop for many years.
He loved to travel and was a member of the Utah Bees RV Club and served as President for 3 years. He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf. Charles looked forward to spending the winter months in Yuma, Arizona.
Charles is survived by his son, Richard C. (Amanda) of Murray, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack (Bonnie) Bishop; his sister, Lee Withers; and twin sister, Mary Lou Maltsberger.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
