Charles Arthur (Chuck) Banta passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 in Ogden, Utah at age 87.  He was born September 13, 1935 in Washington, Indiana to Silas and Hazel LeMasters Banta. 

 

He married Sandra Hollars on March 15, 1957 in Vincennes, Indiana.  Chuck later married Karen Hauschild Kurr in Layton, Utah on May 6, 1995.

 

Chuck served in the United States Marine Corp from July 1954 to June of 1960 and in the Army from March 1962 to 1980.  He also served in the National Guard in Indiana.  He spent a total of 26 years serving his country.  He lived in Indiana, California, Maryland, Alaska, North Carolina, Hawaii, Illinois and Utah.  He also spent time living in Japan, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, South Vietnam, Johnston Island, Korea and the Philippines.

 

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings.

 

Chuck enjoyed his family, working, Genealogy, doing temple work, watching and playing basketball.  He was a very social person; he never met a stranger.  He was loyal, meticulous, loving, he had a big heart, he was a big flirt and loved to tease.

 

He is survived by  his wife Karen of 28 years, his children Jay Banta, Kathie (Garth) Chadaz, Kaylani (Tomas, ex) Garcia, shared with his first wife Sandra, step-children Matthew and Michael Kurr, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister Brenda Gregones, many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard.

 

Thanks for all the care from doctors, nurses, and homecare through Chuck’s various illnesses.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

 

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
