Charlene Amelia Riddle, 86, passed away peacefully at her Ogden home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, just one week shy of her 87th birthday.
Born August 14, 1937, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Julian LaRue and Mary Morgan Merrill, Charlene was the third of seven children. She was raised and schooled in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School, Class of 1955.
She met Buddie H. Riddle, a brother to one of her best friends from school, and they were married on December 16, 1955. Buddie and Charlene raised two sons, Brent and Kurt. Together they enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and square dancing for quite a few years. Charlene also loved to bowl with Buddie. In later years, Charlene kept herself busy volunteering in so many capacities that it’s difficult to list them all. Some highlights include her donations to the American Red Cross (over 53 gallons), volunteering at St. Benedicts (later Ogden Region Medical Center), as well as for health fairs for seniors through Health2You. She received letters from Utah Governor Mike Leavitt and from President George W. Bush, among others, thanking her for her level of community service.
A devoted mother and dedicated homemaker, Charlene was also a very attentive grandmother, playing games or choosing activities that would create a memory for her grandchildren.
She was deeply saddened at the loss of her sweetheart when Buddie passed away on January 18, 2019. Now they are together dancing again. Mom, we will miss you and always remember you.
Charlene is survived by her sons, Brent (Paulette) Riddle, Layton; Kurt (Nancy) Riddle, Portland, Oregon; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and by several of her siblings. In addition to her husband of sixty-three years, Charlene was preceded in death by her parents and by several of her siblings.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in her memory are recommended to the American Red Cross.
