Celeste Barnes Murphy

After a long and full life, Celeste will finally be reunited with her sweetheart. On September 14th, she passed away at the age of 106 years in the loving care of her son.

Celeste was the daughter of Michael and Veronica Barnes of Schley, Iowa. She grew up in Schley as the 9th of 14 children. After spending some time in the Chicago area during her youth, she moved to California where she worked in a defense plant. There she met the love of her life, Lawrence Murphy. They were married on August 16, 1946 and began their family together. After some time, they moved to Utah to their home in Bountiful where she would stay. She spent her married life as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had various callings including serving as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple for 8 years. Her life was always devoted to the service of God, her family, and her neighbors.

She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her as kind, smart and committed to serving the Lord and her family throughout her life.

Her legacy will live on through her children: Michael, Patti, and Merriann; her 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank her wonderful neighbors, the South Davis Home Health and the Utah Home and Hospice for their loving care.

An inside-graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, Utah, where friends may visit with the family on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Bountiful City Cemetery.
