Catherine "Kay" Gibson Hood

Catherine "Kay" Gibson Hood, age 84, passed peacefully from this life on March 29, 2012 after a courageous 10 year battle with Alzheimer''s disease.

Kay was born on April 25, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts to Arthur C. and Catherine Collard. She enjoyed sailing the ocean, dancing, activities at Hibernian Hall, and attending concerts at the Boston Symphony Orchestra where her beloved Uncle Tom was the concert master.

It was love at first sight when Kay met a handsome sailor, Keith R. Gibson, who was stationed with the U.S. Navy in Massachusetts. They were married on July 2, 1946. They moved to Utah several months later to be near Keith''s family, who embraced her as their own from the moment they met her. They moved to West Bountiful, Utah where they built a beautiful home and life in the country. Together they had 6 children. Sadly, Keith passed away on June 27, 1974. Kay continued to live in West Bountiful for 16 years. In 1990, she moved to a retirement park in Taylorsville where she brought with her the love of country life. Soon every bird in the park knew they had a beautiful garden home with Kay. On August 7, 1992, Kay received a second chance at love when she married Gayle M. Hood. They spent 12 very happy, loving years together until Gayle passed away on March 23, 2004. After her diagnosis with Alzheimer''s and Gayle''s death, Kay decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of learning to paint. It became evident in a few short weeks that Kay had a true gift and her work is an inspiration to her posterity of the beauty that can come from adversity.

Kay is survived by her children, Cathie (Bill) Totten, UT, Connie (Bob) Leonard, CA, Cindy (Craig) Price, UT, Jayne Bishop, UT, Keith " Rusty" (Jill) Gibson, UT, Deb Hood and Kathy Banks, UT, Suzanne (Clark) Despain, CA; sister-in-law, Ruby Gibson Steele, and brother-in-law, Lawrence (Peggy) Gibson; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren with two more arriving this summer. The comfort we find in Mom''s passing is our knowledge of the beautiful reunion that took place in Heaven. Thank you Mom and Daddy for your example of true love and devotion.

The family wishes to thank all those who lovingly cared for Mom and an especially loving thank you to Cindy who has been her devoted primary caregiver throughout the years. She has helped Mom move through the difficult transition from being the parent to being the child and Cindy has become the loving parent in return, allowing Mom''s last days to pass gently and peacefully.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. Friends may visit Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the mortuary. Interment Centerville City Cemetery.
