Catherine Cosmos Hogge

Catherine Cosmos Hogge, 94, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Ogden, Utah. She was born on October 27, 1917 in Salt Lake City to John T. and Mary Stamos Cosmos. Two years later her brother, Theodore John Cosmos, was born. When Catherine was eight years old, the family moved to Ogden. She attended Ogden City Schools and was a proud 1936 graduate of Ogden High School. She worked at the family owned Beehive Confectionary on 25th Street and Lincoln Ave. It was here she met Elmer W. Hogge and they were married on August 30, 1937 in Farmington, Utah. They were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. Elmer and "Kate" enjoyed 58 years of marriage prior to his death in 1995. After their marriage, Elmer and Catherine owned Hogge''s Confectionary on Harrison Boulevard across the street from the Dee Hospital. While living in Ogden, they had two children, Dennis Jay and Doris Maxine. After moving to West Weber, she was a cook at West Weber Elementary School. At the time of her death, she was the oldest lady living in West Weber.

She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church until age 29 when she became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her Greek traditions created lasting memories for her family. She demonstrated her strong testimony of Jesus Christ through faithful service as a visiting teacher, weekly temple attendance and with loving compassionate acts. She was the first Jr. Sunday School Coordinator in the West Weber Ward and served for many years as Sunday School Secretary.

She loved spending time crocheting, embroidering, reading, doing cross word puzzles, quilting with other sisters in the ward, calling friends and neighbors with a birthday wish or remembering a special occasion and cooking delicious traditional and Greek dishes. Even at 90, you could find her at West Weber Elementary School reading with the 4th graders.

Her example will live on through her children, Dennis J. (Marie R.) Hogge and Doris Flinders (Kenny) Greenwell. Her memory will continue to bring smiles to her 8 grandchildren, Michael, Brian, Tamra, Troy, Trudy, Tricia, Terra and Tiffany as well as her 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, S''agapo "I Love you".

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, and son-in-law Oren W. Flinders.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the West Weber 1st Ward, 900 S 4100 West, West Weber. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, West Weber Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please take your family out to eat. It was one of her favorite things to do.
