Carol Elaine (Martin) Embry
Carol Elaine (Martin) Embry, 59, left this life for her next great adventure on March 2d, 2012. She was born September 11, 1952, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Carl W. and Mary Martin. She lived and attended school throughout her younger years in Butler, Missouri. That was also where she met Glenn Embry; they were married on August 16, 1970 when she was only 17 years old. They had 41 wonderful years together. Shortly after they were married, Glenn returned to the service of his country as a member of the US Air Force. For the next 17 years, they traveled to different locations around the United States and Germany. Their only child, W. Michael Embry was born in San Bernardino, California. Carol loved their time in the Air Force. She had an adventurous spirit having inherited her father''s love of investigating what was around the next corner and the one after that;. She loved to try anything new. Over the years, she became accomplished in ceramics, porcelain, drawing, oil painting, sewing, cake decorating, wedding planner, and carpentry work. She would see something and say, "I can do that." and most of the time, she could. In addition to her hobbies, Carol was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She and Glenn, after his retirement, were able to live their dream of spending a year living and traveling throughout Europe (Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, England, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, and Finland). They visited and saw things and places they were unable to see or do the first six years they stationed in Germany. Carol loved the history of Europe and enjoyed this truly wonderful time of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. She is survived by her husband Glenn R. Embry, son W. Michael Embry (Carol), grandsons Leland and Arlen Embry of Woods Cross, Utah; her step-son, Mathias Makiolczyk (Daniela), granddaughters Sabrina Fox-Bobb (Bobby), and Vanessa Makiolczyk, great granddaughter Jamie Fox of Bad Nauheim, Germany; step-son Glenn E. (Joey) Embry (friend Sonya Kinser) and grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Embry, and Lara Kinser of Rodgau, Germany. She also leaves her mother Mary Martin of Butler, Missouri; three sisters, Barbara Meyer (Dave) of Sedalia, Missouri, Kim Lowrimore (Gregg) of Blue Springs, Missouri, Jeana Killman (Sam) of Cartridge, Missouri; two brothers, Ted Martin (Debbie) of Stillwater, Kansas, and Phil Martin (Angie) of Butler, Missouri; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. A career Air Force wife, Carol made many friends all around the world. She will be missed by all. It has been said one should leave the world a better place than when came. Carol did that and much more with the love and friendship she instilled on everyone she met.
Our beloved wife, mom, Oma, Nana, daughter, and sister will be dearly missed. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren; they brought so much joy to her life that she borrowed her father''s favorite saying, "If I''d known grandkids were so much fun, I''d had them first!"
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
