Carma Jean Mangel

October 13, 1944 — December 2, 2023

Carma Jean Mangel, 79, a life-long Ogden resident, passed away peacefully at her Harrisville home on December 2, 2023, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 13, 1944 in Ogden to Roy Harold and Freda Elizabeth Garner Campbell, Carma joined a large family, including brothers, Larry, Scott, Michael, Bruce, Reed, and Wayne, and sisters, Lois, Marlene, Dawna, Janice, Christy, and Judy. Raised and schooled here, Carma graduated from high school and worked waitressing and raising her own family.

She married Terry Duval and they later divorced. She married Lynn C. Durrant in 1969 and they had two boys, Tracy and Brian, and they divorced a little over a decade later. She then married Michael Mangel in 1997 and they remained married until his passing in 2001.

Although she spent most of her life in Ogden, Carma also lived in Phoenix for a couple of years, and in Denver and Winnemucca both for over a decade, but she returned to her home to be close to her family over twenty years ago.

Carma loved gardening, ‘sister trips’, and spending time with her family. She was also very active in VFW Post 1481 and loved her community.

Carma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and appreciated her neighbors and friends who would thoughtfully minister to her in her time of need.

Carma was very patriotic and raised her boys to be hard workers and to follow in her footsteps. A highlight of her life, serving with the VFW auxiliary, was meeting with President George W. Bush.

Carma is survived by sons, Tracy and Brian (Jennifer) Durrant all of Harrisville; by her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and by most of her siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Mangel; her former spouse, Lynn C. Durrant; parents; and by brothers, Reed and Wayne Campbell, as well as by her sister, Judy Owens.
