NORTH OGDEN‒Surrounded by his loving family, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Carl Ernest “Ernie” Butters, Jr. was reunited with his Father in Heaven and his eternal sweetheart on May 13, 2023. Ernie was born June 20, 1934, in Ogden, Utah to Carl Ernest Butters Sr. and Adriana Van Batenberg.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On April 7, 1958 he married his eternal sweetheart, Betty Elmer, in the Logan LDS Temple for time and all eternity.

Ernie and Betty were self-made entrepreneurs, with several businesses including, C.E. Butters Realty and Construction and Development Inc. SPS Automotive Center, Klassy Kwik Stop and Towers Sand and Gravel.

After Betty’s passing in 2009, Ernie met Clydene Rhoton in heart rehab. He always said they healed their hearts in two ways. They were married on January 14, 2010. What a wonderful union for both families.

Suriving are his loving wife, Clydene; three children, Kent (Becky) Butters and Craig (Lori) Butters of Pleasant View; and Jill (Jed) Hunter of North Ogden; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruce (Claudine) Butters of Syracuse; brother-in-law, Blaine Elmer of Woodscross; and sister-in-law, Kietha (Grant) Geilman of Farr West. Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; grandson, Gus; parents; stepfather, Malcolm Reiss; sister, Adriana Gonnuscio; sisters-in-law, Leah (Dale) Rands, Elaine (Jay) Kendall and Reanon Elmer.

The family would like to express a special thanks to his wife Clydene; Dr. Donald Lappe’, George E. Wahlen Veterans Home, Dr. David Butters, daughter and son-in-law Jill and Jed Hunter, granddaughter Cami Chapman for all of the loving care and knowledge they provided to Ernie that allowed him to live a fulfilled life to the end.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Aultorest Memorial Park.
