LAYTON – Bruce Rich Petersen, age 70, passed away at home on Saturday, April 30, 2016, on his birthday, from cancer.

He was born on April 30, 1946 in Ogden, Utah.  His parents are Shirley Higley and Charles and LaPrele Petersen.

Bruce attended schools in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School.  He attended Weber State College.  He served his country in the Army Reserves and the U.S. Coast Guard.  He retired from HAFB in 2007 after 41 years of service as an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic Supervisor.

He married Susan Smith on October 26, 1975 and they resided in Layton, Utah.  They were blessed with three children: Julie, Joel and Justin and 10 beautiful grandchildren: McKenzie, Braylen, Reagan, Joshua, Mykell, Caleb, Benny, Addi, Ashtyn and Annie, all from Layton.

Bruce was a member of Washington Heights Church and had a desire to serve an up-coming mission to Italy.  It was during a trip to the Billy Graham Library where he placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior and was saved.

He was devoted to his wife and family.  He had a love for the water his whole life, especially Bear Lake, which he passed on to his family.  His hobbies were boating, water sports, camping and fishing.  He enjoyed planning trips and traveling many places around the world.  He was a talented handy-man and builder.  He kept a meticulous yard and garden.  He was a man of excellence.  He had a love for grilling and cooking for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Suzi, children: Julie Williams, Joel (Brooke) Petersen, mother, Shirley Higley, 10 grandchildren, sisters; Karen and Shauna, brother, Ralph and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son, Justin Petersen, brother, Thomas Rich, sister, Barbara Cowen, and grandparents, Charles and LaPrele Petersen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Heights Church, 1770 E. 6200 S., Ogden, Utah.  Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
