Brent Mann Major, age 80, passed away peacefully in Kaysville, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ogden, Utah, Brent was the son of Francis Mann Major and Paul Burnett Major, and the brother of Sherrol Major, Paul Major, and Craig Major, all of whom preceded him in death.
Brent grew up in Davis County and graduated from Davis High School in 1963, where he proudly lettered in both basketball and football. He went on to earn a double bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Logistics & Procurement from Weber State University, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to service and leadership.
In 1969, Brent was drafted into the United States military, serving honorably from 1970 to 1973 during the Vietnam War. A decorated war veteran, he earned numerous commendations, including the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, among others. Through dedication, integrity, and steadfast devotion, Brent achieved the distinguished rank of Sergeant Major.
After completing his military service, Brent devoted 38 years to federal civilian work at Hill Air Force Base, where he specialized in military procurement and logistics. His professionalism, work ethic, and unwavering commitment left a lasting imprint on colleagues and the mission he supported.
A man of profound faith, Brent served as a temple worker in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 10 years. Throughout his life, he also accepted and fulfilled many other church callings. One of his most cherished roles was serving as the High Priest Group Leader for over five years, during which he built deep friendships, strengthened testimonies, and provided quiet, steady leadership.
Brent is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Linda Gurr Major, and their three children: Tyler (Kristy) Major, Erika (Travis) Sheppard, and Evan (Melinda) Major. He is also preceded in death by two children, Kimberly and Pylara, who passed away shortly after birth. Brent leaves behind nine treasured grandchildren, each of whom brought joy, pride, and purpose to his life.
Brent’s legacy is one of service—service to his country, his community, his church, and, above all, his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentle humor, humble leadership, and the deep, unwavering love he offered to all who knew him.
