Brad T Mortensen, born on April 13, 1959, in Logan, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, in Layton, Utah. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
Brad's journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to his faith and community service. He served a mission in Venezuela, where he dedicated himself to the teachings and values of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years, Brad took on various leadership roles, including Scout Master, Elders Quorum Teacher, Elders Quorum President, Sunday School Teacher, and Cub Master. His contributions to the church were not only significant but also underscored his dedication to the growth and development of the youth in his community.
Professionally, Brad excelled in the field of civil engineering, earning his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Cal-Poly Pomona. He also pursued land surveying, with memberships in numerous organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Utah Council of Land Surveyors, and the National Society of Professional Surveyors. He was respected by his peers for his expertise and commitment to quality within his profession, as evidenced by his involvement with the American Society for Quality.
Beyond his professional life, Brad had a rich tapestry of hobbies and interests. He found joy in woodworking, leather work, reading, camping, painting, and teaching. These passions often spilled over into the cherished moments he spent with family, which he always treasured. He was described as kind and welcoming, always making others feel at ease in his presence.
Brad married Claudia Jean Robinson on April 17, 1981, in the Los Angeles LDS temple. Together, they built a loving family and created lasting memories that will be forever cherished. He is survived by his beloved wife Claudia Mortensen, their children Benjamin (Angela) Mortensen, Danielle (Justin) Goodrich, Elizabeth (Matthew) Skabelund, Jacob Mortensen, Jonathan (Suzanne) Mortensen, Michael (Erika) Mortensen, Andrew Mortensen, and Rachael Mortensen. Brad was also a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren: Ammon, Adam, James, Chet, Ryker, Jaxon, Lincoln, Grayson, Brooks, Thomas, Sonny, Clementine, Samwise, Lillian, Paul, Magdalyn, Lettie, Beau, and Peter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, V. Harvey Mortensen and Patsy Delores Mortensen, as well as Claudias parents; George Eugene Robinson, Lowean Robinson, and his son Joseph Micah Mortensen.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Lakes LDS Chapel, 3065 South Bluff Rd, Syracuse UT. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse UT, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Brad T Mortensen leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and compassion that will be remembered by all who knew him. We know he is reunited with our Son and Brother Joseph, and he is already busy teaching and serving on the other side. We love you Dad!
