Listen to Obituary

Boyd H. Child, 83, our beloved father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025, in the comfort of his home with his daughter by his side.

Boyd was born on May 3, 1942, to Evan Elwood Child and Lucille Hodson. He was the fourth son from a family of eight boys and two girls. He lived in Warren his entire life except for a short time when he lived in West Weber while his first home was being built.

Boyd attended Plain City Elementary and Wahlquist Junior High. He graduated from Weber High School in 1960.

Boyd was taught the value of hard work at a young age working on the family farm and neighboring farms while growing up.

He served an LDS Mission to Northern California and then served in the US Army stationed in Germany.

He bought his farm from Frank and Emma East shortly after returning home from the service. Boyd raised beef cattle, and grew hay, corn, and grain on his farm. He grew a large vegetable garden to share with family, friends, and neighbors.

Boyd worked for Ogden City Animal Control for 30 years, a job he loved. Besides working a full-time job and working his own farm, he continued to work for neighboring farmers until about 3 years ago.

His greatest love next to his family, has been his horses. From the big work horses Kate and May growing up, to Early the horse he bought in high school and too many more to name. Boyd won many trophies for the work horses he showed at the Richmond Black and White Days. He broke colts and shoed horses for many years. He loved to give all his little kids rides on the horses. He missed riding his horses. He has always had a tenderness towards all animals.

Boyd loved giving to others or helping others and visiting with friends and family. If you know Boyd, he has an infinite number of friends. He had a special group of friends that he went to lunch with regularly.

He regularly went to the stockyards on Tuesdays and did schedule all his other appointments and socials on any day BUT Tuesdays, last going just a couple of weeks ago.

Boyd had the incredible opportunity to take the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington DC to visit all of the US and military monuments; and watch the Changing of the Guards at Arlington National Cemetery in November 2023.

Boyd is survived by beloved family, his daughter, Wendie, her son, Drake (KaCee) Thomsen and their children, Lillian, Ruger, OakLee, Benelli, and Citori; son, Boyd Jon (Ellen) Child, and their children, Jordan (Amber), Trevor (Kaitlyn), Kapree, Brynlee (Nicholas Donoso), Gage, Bridger (Kambrie Gonzalez), Preslee, Nathaniel, and Nicholas (Neiko), and grandkids, Greyson, Daniel, Olivia, Carlie, Liam, London, John, Samuel; and son, Jason (Tammie) Child and their children, Logan (Brittney), Karson, Dakota Colton, Noelle, and Emma, and grandkids, Gavin, Lemon, Zayden, Hazel, and Henley. He is also survived by three brothers, Lynn, Lorin, and Quinn; one sister, Zanna; and Ashlee (Mason) Rousselle, little Nova, Ron (Nova) Lott and their children, Kash (Hope), Duncan, and Austin; and Tara and Tavia.
