Listen to Obituary

Blake John Hutzley, 75, passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 3, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, due to complications from congestive heart failure. He was born on November 26, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, to Lois and Thurman Hutzley.

Blake spent his early childhood in Idaho before returning to Ogden, where he graduated from Bonneville High School. He went on to attend Weber State University, excelling on the debate team and earning a degree in political science. There he met his sweetheart, Kathleen, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years. They were married in 1970 and later sealed in the Washington D.C. Temple in 1980.

Following graduation, Blake began a long and distinguished career in the baking industry, becoming a world-class food scientist over the course of 48 years. After retiring from the Kellogg Company, he continued to share his expertise through his own consulting business.

Blake cherished time spent golfing, gardening, watching sports, and enjoying western movies and novels. He loved traveling with Kathleen, especially to visit family and friends.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he devoted many years to selfless service, including callings as Bishop, Stake High Councilor, and Scoutmaster. Among his most treasured experiences was serving as a temple ordinance worker in the Louisville Kentucky and Raleigh North Carolina Temples.

Blake is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen; their five children, Justin (Rachel) Hutzley, Amy (Jeff) Petersen, Megan Hutzley Little, Heather (Jordan) Wilson, and Cameron (Brooke) Hutzley. He leaves behind 20 grandchildren and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clayton and Mark Hutzley.
