“I was never happier than when I was serving others.”
Blaine passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer after only being diagnosed on Sept 10.
Dr. Blaine Rudd Pierson was born on July 19, 1945, to Melba Grace Rudd and George Earl Pierson in their small log home in Plymouth, Utah. From his earliest days, Blaine was a good man whose life was defined by service, faith, and love for others.
Blaine attended Bear River High School, where he played football, wrestled, and played the trumpet in the jazz band. He was proud to be part of the Bear River class of ’63.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Blaine served as a missionary in Brazil, serving in multiple areas of the country. After serving, he enjoyed using the Spanish and Portuguese languages as often as he could.
Blaine continued to be a faithful disciple of Christ as he served as a teacher, minister, and friend to many. His quiet faith and service were constant reminders of his deep love for the Savior. He shared his love of Jesus Christ through his story telling, ability to recall scriptures, and mindful actions.
He attended Utah State University where he served as a Student Body Officer. While there, Blaine met the love of his life, Carolyn Adams. It was, as the family likes to say, “love at first wrestling move.” He used his best wrestling moves to win her over, and she instantly “fell” for his good looks and charm. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple April 3, 1969, and shared 49 wonderful years together.
After Utah State he earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He established a dental practice in Layton, Utah, where he cared for his patients and community. As a dentist, he would sing country music and tell dumb jokes while performing procedures.
Blaine proudly served in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel from the 419th Reserve Fighter Wing. His military career took him on mission assignments to Honduras, Alaska, Germany, and Operation Desert Storm. He always served with dedication and humility.
Blaine was a master craftsman and woodworker, creating beautiful pieces of furniture and Christmas decorations. Blaine built his beautiful cabin at Bear Lake from the ground up, spending countless hours with his family designing, building, and landscaping. He passed his woodworking skills and attention to detail on to his children.
Blaine was a jack of all trades. Whether it was fixing a sprinkler, hanging a door, cutting down a tree, mowing a lawn, fixing a car, or wiring a project, he always showed up, often with tools in one hand and a dad joke in the other. He had a gift for making hard things seem easy and completing projects after saying “dirty word, seventeen times.”
His life was full of service, humor, and good food. He had a quick wit and was always prepared with a joke and a story. He kept his mind active by doing crosswords and daily sudoku, he even solved a couple. Blaine will be remembered as a man who built more than smiles, he built people and created a legacy of love and hard work.
Blaine was preceded in death by his eternal companion Carolyn Adams Pierson, son-in-law Jeff Motychak, and great-grandson Jack William Libby. He is survived by his six children, Kim Pierson, Bradley Jay (Jill) Pierson, Brett Earl (Melissa) Pierson, Natalie Pierson Stromberg, Angella (Stephen) Sieb, and Clark Blaine (Laura) Pierson, eighteen grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
