Betty, 86, passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, February 26, 2012. She was born October 1, 1925 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Adam James Smith and Madeline Estella Petersen. Betty was raised in Ogden, Utah since 1927 and attended Ogden High School. She met and married her neighbor and best friend for life, Royal Hyde Wilde. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She lived the last 38 years in South Ogden where she was a member of the Wasatch Ward of the Uintah Stake, serving as chorister for many years. She and Royal loved music and sang duets on many occasions. They were both members of the Ogden Chorale and Ogden Choralaires. Betty was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a sewing club and several pinochle groups. She worked as a switchboard operator for Sears and ZCMI and later as the Department Manager of the ZCMI Bridal Registry where she retired after 17 years of service. Betty later volunteered at the Ogden Regional Hospital Gift Box.

Betty is survived by a sister, Dorothy Smith, Ventura, California; 2 brothers, Darold Smith, Salt Lake City and Gerald Smith of Henderson, Nevada; 5 children, Janet Darlene (Earl) Tobey, Carmichael, California; Richard LaVar (Wyoma) Wilde, Murray; Royal Douglas (Diane) Wilde, Ogden; Betty Kristene "Kris" Halverson, Ogden; and Jolene "Joey" Louise (Kerry) Johnson, Salt Lake City; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Leon Keith, sisters Fern and Melba, her brother Alden, and by Royal, her husband of 55 years who died in 1996.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
