Clearfield - On Saturday, February 18, 2012 Betty Woods Girardo passed away after a long and arduous battle with cancer.

Born April 2, 1949 in Ogden, Utah the fourth child of Richard E. and Elizabeth C. Doak Woods. She married her soul mate Gerald S. Girardo on July 11, 1966 in Roy, Utah.

Betty and Jerry moved to Sunset, Utah where Jerry started his career at Hill Air Force Base. They spent most of their life as Davis county residents until her untimely death.

Betty was a devoted mother and home-maker, returning to the workplace once her children were in school. Betty held many jobs over the years. Her most enjoyable jobs were production line work and later in life working as a rental agent in Okinawa, Japan.

In the late 1980''s Betty and Jerry relocated to Okinawa, Japan for nine years due to Jerry''s career. Betty became a rental agent/island guide as a result of the many Okinawa friends she made. Betty not knowing Japanese and the Okinawan''s limited English never posed a problem. Betty had the knack of always understanding people and their needs.

Her many activities included being a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was always working for a worthy, charitable cause, usually something that involved children or the disabled. While in Okinawa, Betty learned to make Kime Kome dolls, a local heritage craft, learning the skills and legends of each doll in the process. She became an assistant instructor. She enjoyed singing as a member of a local chapter of the Sweet Adeline''s and spent many nights with Jerry singing Karaoke in Japan. Camping, fishing, bowling and dancing were her passions. Losing a leg to cancer only slowed her dancing down. Betty enjoyed traveling having traveled to many of the states and to Germany.

Betty is survived by her husband Jerry Girardo, Clearfield; and her children, Dianna McClintock, Layton; Sheri (Devin) Ellis, Clearfield; Jimmy (Nikki) Girardo, Roy; and Jerry ''Jer Bear a€" Lil Jerry'' Girardo, Clearfield; eight grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and her sisters, Shirley Crawford, Layton; Margie (Lamar) Love, Roy; and brother Dick (Dani) Woods, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Richard and Elizabeth Woods.
